A trail of broken promises and increased prices
Earlier this month, the President gave a joint address to Congress. Once again, it was a speech filled with lies, misinformation, and disinformation. Further, the speech lacked a plan for how he would help lower costs for working Americans.
In fact, in a 100-minute speech, he spent less than two minutes talking about the skyrocketing costs that working families are facing.
President Trump promised to lower costs for the average American family, and he has not followed through. Instead, he has left us with broken promises and strained budgets. In Northwest Washington, I see and hear your concern. We have seen gas prices increase 12% in the 57 days since Inauguration Day. Additionally, egg prices continue to increase. Now, Trump plans to impose tariffs on Canada and Mexico. These Trump tariffs will directly and dramatically raise the cost of food, gas, and manufactured goods in the Pacific Northwest.
In response, I supported a resolution that Representative Gregory Meeks from New York introduced to limit President Trump and his unconstitutional "claimed authority." This includes the authority he claims to have to indiscriminately raise tariffs and raise the prices of goods you purchase every day.
During the political chaos and confusion of the Trump presidency, I remain focused on defending our values, listening to you, and improving the lives of Northwest Washingtonians.
More soon,
Rick
