I hear you, I share your concern and frustration
Last Saturday, I hosted a telephone town hall. Thank you to all those who joined me, and took the time to call, to email, and to rally outside my office in response to the chaos of this current administration. I hear you, I share your concern and frustration, and I am fighting back.
Since February 3rd, we have received 3,172 calls. On top of that, we have also received 17,359 messages, mostly through email from you. There is a clear sign of concern and frustration from all of you, and that is why I hosted the town hall so I could communicate with you about what I am doing to fight back.
President Trump’s Project 2025 is alive and well. In his first month as President, he is sowing chaos and confusion by trying to implement an agenda that Courts have already said violates the Constitution and breaks promises to lower costs for families and businesses.
The President promised to cut energy prices in half, but at the time of the town hall, gas prices in Everett were up 10% since Inauguration Day. The price of meat in the grocery store has gone up 2% just in the past month. He is not focused on families and businesses, he is solely focused on his agenda.
Trump and the GOP are working for the richest Americans and wealthiest corporations. They are only changing the budget to help pay for a massive tax cut, but Democrats are fighting back with unity and purpose.
As the lead Democrat on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I have taken several actions to push back against this Republican Rip-Off:
- I sent a letter to Secretary Duffy at the Transportation Department about the infrastructure freeze that is freezing dollars right now that otherwise would go to job-creating infrastructure investments
- I signed a letter to rebute the late-night purge of Inspectors Generals, the folks in charge of rooting out corruption fraud in Government
- Earlier last week, I sent a letter to Secretary Duffy on the halt of the EV charging station program
- I have sent a letter to Trump and Officials about the illegal firing of four FEMA Officials in New York
- I am pushing Secretary Duffy to continue to implement the FAA Reauthorization Bill that will improve aviation safety
I am not sitting by as this administration continues to sow chaos and confusion, and neither should you. Call the White House - let them know that you disagree with this agenda, and make sure they know that we can not be sidelined.
Members of Congress and Congress as an institution do not have legal standing in Court to challenge Executive Orders. But, Congress can and does partner with States’ Attorney General like our own Attorney Nick Brown, to partner with nonprofit organizations and unions to challenge Administration actions. Right now, groups have filed more than 65 lawsuits related to at least 25 of the unlawful Executive Orders.
When we push back against this Republican Rip-Off, we win. The public pressure is working, and I need you to continue to speak out when the Republican Rip-Off hurts you and your community. You have a voice, and we want to hear from you.
More soon,
Rick
