The funding freeze begins now
The new administration has authorized a "funding freeze" that will impact billions of dollars that state and local governments rely on to provide essential services in their communities. This Executive Order blocks funding to pay teachers, support first responders, provide mental health services, fund domestic violence shelters, and house homeless veterans. The decision undermines investments in roads, bridges, highways, and other infrastructure projects that create jobs and keep the Pacific Northwest moving.
Let me be clear: this illegal funding freeze chokes off virtually all federal funding for basic services – it is a reckless move that hurts jobs and raises prices on the working families I represent here in Northwest Washington.
This order took effect just moments ago at 2pm Pacific. We will see the full impact of this order over the coming days and weeks. I urge the administration to reverse course on this Executive Order and support the working families who will be immediately negatively impacted by this decision.
