Are you better off than you were two years ago?
Last week, on the House floor, GOP leader Kevin McCarthy asked us, "Are Americans better off than they were two years ago?"
Yes, we are!
Two years ago – in the summer of 2020 – COVID was raging and vaccines were months away, over ten million Americans had lost their jobs, millions of Americans were struggling with food insecurity, and the stock market was plunging amid pandemic economic shocks.
Since then, President Biden and the Democratic Congress are getting America back on track.
-
Democrats passed the American Rescue Plan and delivered 500 million vaccine shots in arms and sent relief checks to 160 million Americans.
-
We passed the child tax credit, creating the biggest one-year drop in childhood poverty in American history.
-
Way ahead of schedule, American jobs have come roaring back – and unemployment now stands at just 3.5%.
-
Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we have invested $550 billion repairing roads and bridges, updating the power grid, and providing broadband internet access.
-
Computer chip manufacturing is coming back to America, creating high-paying jobs and stronger national security.
-
Harmed by toxic burn pits, our veterans will get the health care they need.
-
We passed the first gun safety legislation in 30 years — with enhanced background checks, closing the "boyfriend loophole", and making gun trafficking a federal crime.
-
Now, we are taking on climate change with huge investments in clean energy and electric vehicles.
-
And for seniors on Medicare, prescription drug costs will be capped at $2000 a year.
There is a lot more to do, but over the last 18 months Democrats have been getting it done!
