An update on our efforts to protect women’s reproductive health
The date has been set.
The Supreme Court will hear arguments on December 1 that could allow the end of Roe v. Wade as we know it.
And since our last update, the Texas near-total abortion ban has emboldened other states to pursue similar action - further eroding a woman's right to choose across our country.
We have to act now. And we are.
This week, we can pass the Women's Health Protection Act through the House, bringing us one step closer to nationally codifying the Constitutional right of women to make their own personal, private decisions on their reproductive health.
But we should not stop there.
For 45 years, the Hyde Amendment has been used as a cudgel against the Roe v. Wade decision, forbidding abortion coverage under health plans that are disproportionately relied upon by lower-income women and women of color.
It is inexcusable that the Hyde Amendment remains when Roe is the law of the land, and it is critical we finally end that discriminatory practice once and for all.
