Protecting USPS and elections
Americans rely on the U.S. Postal Service every day to deliver prescriptions, ballots and paychecks. That is why Donald Trump's attacks on postal workers threaten all Americans, including veterans, seniors and small business owners.
Trump's motivation is clear: preventing vote-by-mail.
I am headed to Washington, D.C., later this week to help pass legislation to save the Postal Service. The House is leading the fight to protect the Postal Service and ensure the safety of the 2020 elections, which I have supported every step of the way:
-
August 12: In a letter to the postmaster general, I joined House Democrats in calling for the reversal of policies that have worsened the crisis facing the Postal Service.
-
May 15: The House passed the Heroes Act, which includes $25 billion for the Postal Service and $3.6 billion to help states prepare for elections.
- February 5: The House passed the USPS Fairness Act, which ends the agency's mandate to pre-fund retiree health care benefits, a major cause of its financial problems.
It is time for the Senate to act. I will keep fighting to protect the Postal Service and the right to vote. Stay tuned for more updates from me this week.
