Sign the petition: tell the new Congress to act on gun violence
Children in schools practicing lockdown drills. Places of worship hiring security guards. Communities living in fear of gun violence.
This has got to stop.
Americans are fed up with getting nothing more from lawmakers than thoughts and prayers.

That is why in Washington, we just passed an initiative that will raise the age to purchase semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21. This initiative will also require an enhanced background check, a firearms-safety training course, and a 10-business day waiting period.
It is time the rest of the country look to Washington and how we are working towards safer communities.
In January, the new House can take long overdue action to pass laws that save lives: close background-check loopholes, restrict gun purchases by domestic abusers, and get automatic weapons off the streets.
With a Democrat majority in the House, we can finally make inroads to combat our nation's gun violence epidemic. We can stand up to the NRA.
