Trump's bait and switch on infrastructure
Donald Trump's infrastructure plan proposes a $1.5 trillion budget to fix infrastructure.
Sounds good, right? Wrong.
Read the fine print: the federal government would pay only a fraction of that amount. States are responsible for coming up with all but $200 billion.
In other words, Trump's plan asks states to pay nearly seven times what the federal government would spend.
As we know firsthand in Northwest Washington, our crumbling bridges, potholed highways, and inadequate transportation systems are in desperate need of repair – we need nearly $200 billion spent just to get things up-to-speed.
We are counting on a federal plan to solve a federal problem. It is a matter of safety. It is a matter of creating good, local jobs. It is a matter of investing in America.
I have said it before: you cannot have a big league economy with little league infrastructure.
I am not falling for Trump's bait and switch infrastructure plan. Northwest Washington cannot afford it.
Stay tuned. I will let you know in the coming weeks and months as this develops.
